Nutrino raises $8 million in series A round to expand AI-based nutrition data services

Israel-based nutrition data startup Nutrino has secured $8 million in a series A funding round to expand its AI-based nutrition data services across the digital health sector.

With this most recent seed round, Nutrino’s total raised amounted to $10 million which will also be used to further develop its database, which is used by enterprises related to several sectors including food & beverages, digital health, and fitness. The startup says that its nutrition insights platform for accumulating, processing and analysing food-related data is an “invaluable tool” for both individuals as well as enterprises.

The use of AI and ML helps Nutrino understand individual responses to specific foods better via feedback from wearables and other data-points. These exclusive contextual insights enable Nutrino to define a person’s FoodPrint – “the digital signature of how food affects a person’s body.” Nutrino can provide smart, data-based, individualised insights for personal nutrition to the estimated 415 million diabetics worldwide at present, the count of which is anticipated to jump to 642 million by 2040.

Nutrino’s database collects and combines information from large number of food items globally and is said to be one of the largest in the planet. With Nutrino’s advanced platform and comprehensive food database, companies can better understand the eating habits of diabetics, improve the success of their product line-ups and programmes and identify new doors of opportunities.

Nutrino CEO Yael Glassman said: “Our proprietary technology, FoodPrint, uncovers the previously invisible connections between people and their food. Nutrino is where data meets nutrition, and as we’ve demonstrated in our work with multinational partners around nutrition and diabetes, the opportunity is vast. This funding round will enable us to significantly expand our commercial reach.”
